To all you Anti-Christmasians

It seems like everyone is a cynic these days, and by God, a cynic has to address this. I'm at work right now, chipping away at ole' boulder on Christmas Eve, and my co-workers are ripping into Christmas right now.

"Ooh, it's too commercial."

"Ooh, the presents don't even come from the heart."

"Ooh, you shouldn't give gifts only once a year."

These things are all true, and yet, my co-workers blame Christmas for this, as though it's Christmas' fault that they don't wake up and start giving heartfelt gifts and cards to all of their friends and loved ones in April.

The truth is, if it weren't for Christmas, we likely wouldn't even have the one day a year of exchanging gifts. People get busy with the job, the kids, the life - Christmas reminds us to take a step back once a year and think hard about the people that make this life worthwhile. For that reason alone I think Christmas is necessary.

Essentially what I'm saying is this: cynics, you've got to put the horse before the cart - it isn't that people avoid giving gifts year-round because they're waiting for Christmas to do it, it's that if it weren't for Christmas, most people wouldn't even give gifts once a year.

Merry Christmas!

I concur. With your statement and Joey's! Except, I hate the fact that while I'm looking for everybody else's gift, I can only find presents that ONE person would like, as opposed to all the other people I want to cover! Oy ve!
